Bianca King, who started her showbiz career on a teen-oriented TV show in 2004, celebrated her 14th year in showbiz earlier this year.
It seemed that the time was right for her long-running career to reach greater heights—no one thought that her stint on ABS-CBN’s defunct drama series “Pusong Ligaw” could be her last.
After the series, however, King decided to step back from the limelight and consider living a life by the beach.
It took the 33-year-old actress 14 years to find the demands of a show business career overwhelming.
“You’re working 24 hours a day, memorizing lines, crying, screaming. And you do that four to five times a week. And you’re like, ‘Where did my life go?'” she said in an interview during the Burt’s Bees “Be a True Force of Nature” event in Pasig City recently.
“I just want to sleep eight hours a day. That’s my real concern. I want to eat and sleep well,” she added.
LIVING BY THE BEACH
After more than a decade in the limelight, King finally took the plunge only a few celebrities would dare to take—she left showbiz and moved out of the city.
“I grew up by the beach, so I see the value in establishing my life now by the sea. When the time comes that I have to raise a child, that child can have the same childhood that I had. You know, play in the ocean, climb trees, have plenty of space for them to run around—and be with nature,” she said.
King also took a huge leap towards changing her outlook in life. From being future-oriented, she started focusing on the “here and now.”
It is about time, King said, for her to focus on things that make her happy and fulfilled.
“What’s my definition of success? Being able to sleep eight hours a day, being able to eat good food, being one with the home that you live in,” she said.
For now, the 33-year-old King said she wants to live in the moment, and not overthink the future.
“The decision to change careers was already there, but I am not exactly pressuring myself to think what’s happening next,” she said.
For income, she learned to optimize her social media accounts, which she considers as the “byproduct” of her life as a celebrity.
Her Instagram account has over 700,000 followers, making it a good platform for her endorsements. She also uses it to amplify her #LifesABeach advocacy, which involves beach clean ups and the promotion of local small-scale industries.
“I’m trying to use them for altruistic reasons, and not just for self promotion,” she said.
ONE WITH NATURE
Another advocacy that King is actively promoting now is to be “one with nature.”
“I think man belongs with nature. I think I feel most myself when I’m under the sun, breathing fresh air, near the ocean,” she said.
Part of being “one with nature” is being conscious of the products that one uses, King said. It is important that people choose the ones that will not only benefit them, but the whole planet in general. Take cosmetics and personal care products.
