Kids & Canvas – Welcome Spring
Children will enjoy painting a canvas of a bunch of spring flowers in full bloom at Creative 360. Ursula Steckert will lead this class “follow the leader” style to ensure students are happy with their creation. The class takes place from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 21. Cost is $20. Midland Aviation Camp 2018
Midland Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 1003 will hosting its 2018 Midland Aviation Camp June 18-22. The camp is open to students entering 10th-12th grade in the fall and meets daily from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The camp is designed as an introduction to the many facets of the aviation and space world and emphasizes hands on experience. From airplanes and aerodynamics to weather and flight navigation, campers gain experience by visiting airplane hangars, talking with the builder/owners, learning about careers in aviation, meeting aviation professionals at local corporations and visiting the nearby MBS control tower. The camp will be held at the Midland EAA Ormond Barstow Aviation Education Center at the Midland Jack Barstow Airport on Airport Road between Eastman and Sturgeon roads. Tuition is $90 for five days. An Afternoon at the Sugarhouse
Discover the magic of maple syrup season Saturdays and Sundays in March as you experience the process of making syrup from start to finish. Visitors are invited to peek in buckets on tapped trees, watch the steam rise in the sugarhouse and learn how to change maple sap into sweet maple syrup. Creating a Bird Friendly Yard
Bird feeding is a popular activity for people of all ages. Chippewa Nature Center will bust some bird-feeding myths, discuss types of feeders, which seeds birds will eat and how to avoid window kills from 2 to 3 p.m. March 25. Learn about natural foods growing on native trees, shrubs and flowers, and why shelter is important for bird survival. Spring Exploration Days
Enjoy your break from school while exploring the wonders of nature in Michigan at Chippewa Nature Center, 400 S. Badour Road, Midland. This indoor program includes a variety of self-guided, hands-on exploration stations. Experiments, fun facts, crafts and scavenger hunts are just a few of the types of activities children will experience Monday through Friday, March 20 to April 8. The nature center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.
Nature Preschool Packets Available
Nature Preschool registration packets for the 2018-19 school year are available at www.chippewanaturecenter.org/nature-preschool/ Hard copies will be available at the Chippewa Nature Center Visitor Center, 400 S. Badour Road, Midland. New this year, families may submit their class preferences online through the 2018-2019 Nature Preschool Placement Request Form.
NEMCSA Head Start Preschool
NEMCSA Head Start is a free preschool program for qualifying families with children ages 3 to 4. Head Start also serves children with special needs and/or disabilities. Head Start is a member of the Midland County Regional Preschool Partnership. Complete a preschool interest form online at www.michiganpreschool.org NEMCSA Head Start offers full day and half-day preschool classrooms that run four days a week. Classroom locations in the Midland and Sanford areas include sites at Longview Early Childhood Center, First Baptist Church, Grace Bible Church and Sanford Early Childhood Center.
